Safety Advisor

Reporting to the CEO, this is an incredible opportunity for a Health and Safety Leader to take the next steps in their career. Our new Corporate Safety Advisor will partner with Construction Operations and Project Management teams to promote a proactive and progressive safety culture across our locatioins. If you are passionate about Health and Safety in construction and will mentor a team of safety minded individuals across our residential and ICI construction sites in BC.

Duties

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for updating, maintaining and implementing the PRD health and safety program to ensure corporate policies and procedures are in accordance with current Occupational Health and Safety requirements, COR requirements, provincial legislation and industry standards.
  • Demonstrate leadership in Health and Safety and provide subject matter expertise on all project-specific health and safety issues.
  • Mentor employees, subcontractors and vendors in B.C. with goal of ‘Safety First, Everyday everyone goes home un-injured’.
  • Ensure that our trade partners understand and adhere to program requirements and that safety standards are aligned with requirements.
  • Take an active role in project start-up to assist with the development of construction plans and hazard identification.
  • Visit projects regularly and conduct safety audits of the sites to ensure implementation of safety policies and procedures.
  • Act as primary point of contact to investigate and thoroughly report on all health and safety incidents, while ensuring all correction actions are put in place in a timely manner. Share your learnings across Construction Operations and Project Management teams.
  • Oversee modified work cases and return to work program, while liaising with WorkSafe BC.
  • Develop and deliver various employee Health & Safety training.
  • Monitor and track HSE compliance, performance, efficiency and trends in order to create reports and make recommendations based on finds to senior management.
  • Coordinate and chair Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge in the field of Health & Safety with emphasis on emerging safety trends, methods and practices affecting our industry/operations.
  • Represent the company in meetings with government bodies and other agencies on matters regarding workplace health and safety and liaise with these agencies for regular updates on legal regulations and program initiatives on workplace safety and environmental issues.
  • Obtain and maintain all appropriate corporate health and safety certifications (i.e. COR) and external third-party approvals.
  • Other administrative functions as assigned.

Qualifications

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Willing to train the right individual.
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a combination of education and industry experience would be considered an asset.
  • Certified National Construction Safety Office (NCSO) would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of OH&S requirements, provincial legislation, and associated industry standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Dynamic and proactive approach, excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Solid computer skills with proficiency with MS Office applications.

Must have a valid drivers license
