We're hiring a Yard Maintenance & Inventory Worker to join our team at PRD Construction in Prince George, BC.

Responsibilities for this position include yard upkeep, including general groundskeeping and cleaning as well as inventory management such as tracking, organizing, and restocking supplies and materials. This will include loading and unloading materials, supplies, and equipment for delivery, storage, and use.

This means that all candidates must have the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions as well as be capable of physical labour, including lifting heavy materials.

A large part of this job involves working with equipment. That includes equipment maintenance such as performing routine checks like checking fluid levels and tire pressures as well as basic maintenance tasks. Mechanical skills would also be a significant asset for this role.

We may also need you to assist with preparing tools and vehicles for field crews. You will also be required to move the equipment around the yard, so the successful candidate must be able to safety operate equipment like forklifts, excavators, skid steers, mowers, zoom lifts, and other machinery. Additionally, you will need to be able to efficiently operate a 1-ton truck, a gooseneck trailer, and a 20' flat deck.

As such we're looking for someone with ideally 1 to 2 years of experience in yard and equipment maintenance work and valid class 1, 3, and 5 driver's licenses with a Heavy Trailer Endorsement. You must also be familiar with safety protocols around heavy equipment.

Safety and compliance is another component of the Yard Maintenance & Inventory Worker's role, including filling out and maintaining logbooks and all safety documents, adhering to safety procedures, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment. Part of that responsibility means notifying management of low inventory levels, faulty operations, or any unsafe conditions.

This position is Monday to Friday with 8 - 10 hour shifts for a 40 hour work week although this role also includes overtime. You'll be working at our laydown yard in Prince George as well as on work sites in the the city and surrounding area.

Duties

  • Yard upkeep:
    • Performing general groundskeeping duties such as mowing, weeding, and keeping the area clean, organized and free from hazards.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Tracking, organizing, and restocking supplies and materials. This also includes receiving and inspecting materials and equipment as they are returned.
  • Equipment maintenance:
    • Performing routine checks on equipment, like checking fluid levels and tire pressures, and conducting basic maintenance tasks. They may also assist with preparing tools and vehicles for field crews.
  • Loading and unloading:
    • Loading and unloading materials, supplies, and equipment for delivery, storage, or use.
  • Operating machinery:
    • Safely operating equipment like forklifts, skid steers, mowers, and other machinery to move materials and equipment around the yard.
  • Expediting Materials and Equipment:
    • Operate efficiently a 1-ton truck.
    • Load and Delivery from various construction sites with either a 35’ gooseneck trailer or a 20’ flat deck.
    • Load and Delivery of excavators, skid steers, zoom lifts and other various pieces of small equipment.
  • Safety and compliance:
    • Fill out and maintain logbooks and all safety documents
    • Adhering to all safety procedures and regulations, and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Reporting:
    • Notifying management of low inventory levels, faulty operations, or any unsafe conditions.

Qualifications

  • Class 1, 3 & 5 Valid License with Heavy Trailer Endorsement
  • Mechanical Skills an asset
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy materials
  • Competent Experience operating basic yard and equipment
  • Good Organizational skills
  • Familiarity with safety protocols
