Indigenous Partnerships

< Working in partnership to build up Indigenous communities across Northern BC.

It all started with one powerful conversation. With a recommendation from trusted individuals in Stellat’en First Nation, key members reached out to introduce themselves in hopes of establishing a connection for their community.

During this discussion, they described a history with other construction companies that had eroded any foundation for a relationship built with trust and transparency. Fortunately, we had already spent years in our northern community, building a reputation for integrity, transparency, and quality, which shows in our past and present work. That reputation was enough for them to take a chance on us.

In Stellat’en, we started off with smaller projects to build that trust, and once we had finished those projects, we were recommended for another, and another, and so on until we’d become the construction contractor of choice for projects in First Nations’ communities.

We’re able to provide professional advice on construction, business, and operations management to First Nations leaders all over northern British Columbia that is unique to their Nations, communities, and goals for development and infrastructure.

Respect for First
Nations Communities

It’s a privilege to work with First Nations communities, and to not only be respectful and make our way personally and professionally along the path to truth and reconciliation but also offer more personalized advice. We educate ourselves on their histories, cultures, and needs, developing the appropriate attitude for the projects.

Part of those efforts include participating in cultural and community events when we’re invited to do so. We often attend public celebrations and tradeshows, but one of our favourite events is the Stellat’en Salmon Fest.

We often sponsor and attend Salmon Fest because we appreciate being able to contribute to an event that is so culturally significant to one of our most valuable partners, and we believe it’s important for our employees to learn and integrate socially with the communities they help construct. It’s part of our mission to build with intention and respect.

Our Path to Truth
& Reconciliation

The Indigenous Peoples of Canada have been victimized since colonial settlers first landed in this country, and it did and continues today to harm them, including in the racialized socio-economic inequality that persists today.

Trying to forget our history does a disservice to those who suffered then, and the people who still feel the effects echoing in the present day. We’ve taken a different approach.

Truth and reconciliation efforts are something we feel strongly about, and our work with Indigenous partners across Northern BC, helping to promote economic inclusion, is just us doing our part to help marginalized communities heal and thrive so we can all move towards a better future.
